Our Ethiopian-inspired Berbere spice is a fiery, chilli based blend with a beautiful aroma – and bite! Add a splash of oil to make a paste and you have a wonderful marinade for lamb, chicken or roast vegetables – just use sparingly as it is hot!
This blend is coarsely ground to use more as a marinade, but if you want to leave it in the sauce you can always grind a teaspoon-amount in a mortar and pestle and it will add incredible depth of flavour. Once finely ground, a pinch in sweet potato soup or rubbed onto wedges gives warmth with layers of spicy flavour.
Try mixing it with yoghurt for a spicy marinade – perfect for chicken, lamb or fish. It’s also great to add to a pepper grinder for a convenient kick whenever you want it.
