Celery Seeds have a strong flavour so use sparingly. A pinch on a potato salad or coleslaw adds an interesting flavour, or add to soups, stews, baking, dressings. We add a pinch when roasting a chicken too.
The classic start to any soup, stew or chilli is the ‘Holy Trinity’ of celery, carrots & onions (the French mirepoix or Italian soffritto) & though we normally have onions & carrots to hand, we rarely have celery, so we add a pinch of celery seeds for a good alternative when we’re cooking.
Another tip is to grind them to a powder & use as a salt substitute.
