Marjoram
£ 1.35
Marjoram is an aromatic, woody perennial herb native to Cyprus & Southern Turkey & now found commonly growing in Mediterranean countries. It has a softer flavour than Oregano & is soft & sweet tasting. It has even been likened to the flavour of sage, rosemary & thyme all rolled into one.
It also pairs well with spicy foods, especially in North Italy where Marjoram is preferred over Oregano. In certain cuisines, it appears with salt, pepper & paprika on the table for seasoning food.
A sprinkle over pizza or feta cheese with a drizzle of Sicilian Lemon oil is one of our favourite ways to use it, as well as in a Greek salad or with barbecued meats or fish.
Marjoram contains a naturally occurring source of salicylates and is best avoided by people eating a salicylate free diet.
